Welcome to Scripmem.com!
Scripmem is a scripture memorization web application. Our goal is to provide a tool to help believers with the spiritual discipline of scripture memorization.
"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." - Psalm 119:11 (NIV)
How do I memorize scripture?
1) Select
The first step is to identify the passages you wish to learn, then divide them into manageable chunks. Most memorization either deals with a short "key verse" (John 3:16, Romans 3:23-24, etc.) or a longer passage of the Bible (Phil 2:5-11, Gal 5:19-26, etc.)... even an entire chapter or book. We use the concept of cards and groups to help you organize the scripture you wish to memorize.
Cards are the containers you will add verses you want to memorize. Add verses that logically flow together. If you put several discontinuous or random verses on the same card it will make it much harder to memorize. In general, it is best not to put more than about five versus on a single card.
Groups are a way to organize your cards. Often you will have several cards that follow a certain theme (e.g. "Salvation", "Purity", or "Book of Philippians"). If you create a card with Romans 3:23 and another with Romans 6:23 then you may want to create a group called "Salvation" to put both of these cards. If you are trying to memorize a large chunk of scripture such as a book or a large chapter you can break up the verses into several smaller cards and place those cards in a group. You can use groups however they help you, but if you don't find them useful you don't have to use them at all.
2) Learn
Memorize it! Learning scripture by heart is best done by turning it into a game. We offer a mini-game called "Hide Words" that periodically covers up several words at a time from a single card. Reading verses out loud while progressively hiding words teaches your brain to fill in the gaps, and eventually memorize the text. Also, this site offers a test portal where you can practice entering the verses from memory. After successful entries, you will see your status for each verse move from "No Results" --> "In Progress" --> "Almost There" --> "Memorized". But, it is important to keep practicing verses you have memorized: over time, your memorized verses will lose that status!
